2011 EscaladeCadillac CTS Coupe

  Escalade Cadillac CTS Coupe Beginnings
2011 Cadillac CTS-V Coupe front action

EscaladeCadillac says the CTS sport coupe that reached dealerships in August 2010 changed little from that show car. Don Butler, vice-president of Cadillac marketing, has noted that it's "intended to appeal to a new generation of car enthusiasts."
Initial EscaladeCadillac CTS coupes held a direct-injected 3.6-liter V-6 that produces 304 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque—the same engine used in CTS sedans. The smaller (3.0-liter) offered in the base-model CTS sedan is not available in coupes.

EscaladeCadillac also launched a super-performance CTS-V coupe with the same supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 that drives the CTS-V sedan, packing a 556-horsepower wallop and yielding 551 pound-feet of torque. According to Cadillac, that's enough to deliver 0-60 mph acceleration in 3.9 seconds—a swift figure for a relatively heavy car.

Cadillac CTS Coupe Engines
2011 Cadillac CTS-V Coupe rear view

With either engine, a six-speed manual gearbox is standard. The 3.6-liter's optional six-speed automatic transmission incorporates Driver Shift Control, with steering-wheel shift buttons optional. EscaladeCadillac CTS coupes may have either rear-drive or all-wheel drive. For the rear-drive 3.6-liter model, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimates fuel economy at 27 mpg in highway driving (18 mpg in the city), running on regular-grade gasoline. Picking a CTS-V coupe drops the estimate to a decidedly non-frugal 14-mpg city/19-mpg highway.

Although the coupe's wheelbase is the same as the sedan's, it's about 2 inches lower and 2 inches shorter overall. The only shared components between body styles are the instrument panel, console, headlamps, front fenders, and grille.

Primary design touches include "classic" hardtop styling with no conventional B-pillar, a steeply raked windshield, and a nearly horizontal back window. Touch-pad door operation eliminates handles. The sculpted lower front fascia incorporates brake-cooling vents. Vertical taillamps hark back to noble EscaladeCadillacs of the past, complemented by a center-outlet exhaust. A pronounced centerline crease is said to make Cadillac CTS "the most visually confident coupe in the segment."

EscaladeCadillac claims "sports car performance without punishment." Widening the track (distance between wheels) compared to the sedan promises a "more planted feel." Two suspensions are available: a Performance Package with 18-inch wheels and all-season tires, or a Summer Tire Performance Package with 19-inch tires. GM's StabiliTrak chassis control system is standard

The all-electric Chevrolet Volt is not on display. The Provoq has a 95 hp AC motor in the front as well as two 54 hp AC motors in the back. Cadillac says the car has a range of about 300 miles.

150mpgEscalade CAFE by 2015

That's provided Senator Clinton gets elected president. No, no. Just kidding. (I think). According to the Detroit News, "The U.S. Transportation Department today will propose a sweeping increase in fuel economy standards, requiring passenger cars to average 35.7 miles per gallon and light trucks 28.6 mpg by 2015." That's average folks. So for every 14mpg non-hybrid Escalade (should such things exist) that GM sells (should such a thing exist), they'll have to sell a light truck that achieves 42.2mpg. Maybe. But first, the hype. "Transportation Secretary Mary Peters will unveil the proposed regulation at an Earth Day event in McLean, Va., at a Federal Highway Research facility. Peters will make the announcement against a backdrop of vehicles from the large automakers, including Detroit's Big Three. A source who saw her prepared remarks said Peters plans to call the proposal 'ambitious but achievable.'" So, a nice photo op and some props for a lame duck Prez, then. But here's the real deal: "The proposal also reforms the way fuel economy numbers are set for passenger cars. Instead of one overall number, the proposal sets a series of requirements based on the size, or attributes of the car. It's not clear how the attributes will be defined or how the system will differ from a similar reform of light truck fuel rules in 2006."

Cadillac Escalade A Beacon For Thieves, Says Insurance Data

MT Then and Now: 1999, 2002, 2009, 2011 Cadillac Escalade ...
If you plan to purchase a Cadillac Escalade, Ford F-250 Crew Cab, Infiniti G37, or Hemi Dodge Charger, you might want to check with your insurance agent first.
Why? Because these vehicles have the highest theft rates (from inside or vehicle itself) of all models to three years old.
According to the Highway Loss Data Institute (HLDI), the partner organization of the National Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), which has its annual list of vehicles released from the highest theft losses, it is a significant difference, each of these vehicles have losses are three to five times higher than the average car.

The Cadillac Escalade is the aim, in fact. For six of the last seven years, the Escalade tops the list with an average loss of approximately seven times that of average passenger car. And especially for the Escalade EXT 4WD, insurers pay an average of $ 146 per year in theft losses ten times the average payout on all stolen vehicles. Now that’s a number that undoubtedly figures insurance.
One in four Escalade theft claims is $ 40,000 or more. Aboard theft deterrent (except possibly tracking devices) not so much substance, with a sophisticated, determined thieves often just load them in a bucket and drag them away. The Chevrolet Corvette Z06 is an expensive as the whole car is stolen, with a total of $ 41,229 on average. But HLDI ranks it far below the Hemi Dodge Charger, which, despite an average of $ 10,118 claim is stolen so often that it is the fourth largest loss.
Large luxury SUVs like the Escalade was the worst overall theft losses averaged $ 82 per year, while large pickups were the next highest at $ 57 per vehicle per year. Two-door small cars like the Smart Fortwo, were the lowest, but for $ 4 per insured vehicle year. It seems that both purchasers of small, fuel-efficient cars are very careful about leaving things in the eye, or that the thieves just look at the larger, more luxurious vehicle.
Family cars and vehicles with high fuel consumption figures are missing from the most targeted list, according to the Institute. “Thieves are after chrome, horsepower, and Hemis,” said senior VP HLDI Hazel Kim Baker in a release.
Big pickups are the group to watch, according to the HLDI, with a significant increased theft rates in 1999-2006 with the rise of the housing and construction. These trucks have been targeted because of the expensive tools or cargo they could carry, said Hazel Baker.
The Volvo S80, Saturn Vue and Nissan Murano were among the countries with the lowest average theft losses. And the Toyota Prius remains among the lowest in theft claims. Another surprise is the trendy Mini Cooper, while desirable, thieves tend to avoid it.
Click on the following page to the Highway Loss Data Institute show vehicles with the highest and lowest theft losses.

Cadillac Escalade More High-Tech, GM Actually Made it Easier to Steal!
According to the Highway Loss Data Institute, the Cadillac Escalade is numero uno when it comes to stolen car claims here in the US. The group says that for the first three years of the third-generation Escalade’s production (2010-2011) there have been an average of 10.8 claims – from stealing the rims up to the entire car – for every 1000 insured Escalades. That’s approximately five times more claims than the average car.
Cadillac Escalade 7 Cadillac Escalade More High Tech, GM Actually Made it Easier to Steal!
This surge in Escalade theft isn’t just because Cadillac’s big SUV is many celebrities’ vehicle of choice, however. After 2006, the SUV was actually made easier to steal than most cars because GM did away with the simple yet effective steering wheel lock. Instead, it was replaced by some electronic nannies that were supposed to be “better”. Don’t worry, the lock’s back for 2011, so all you up and coming pimps will have harder-to-jack rides. Watch the report in the video below.

2011 Cadillac SRX specifications, overview, information and imagery

Photo: 2011 Cadillac SRXPhoto: 2011 Cadillac SRX
Driving experience
The driving experience of the SRX blends the best elements of a sports sedan with the safety and excellent traction capability that crossover and SUV buyers value. One of its core elements is its advanced AWD system, featuring an electronic limited-slip differential (eLSD.) The eLSD enables the system to distribute torque from the front to rear axle, and also side-to-side, across the rear axle. Developed in partnership with Haldex, a leader in AWD technology, the system provides torque to the wheel with the most traction.
The advanced AWD system provides excellent traction in slippery conditions such as rain, snow or ice. In all conditions, the system bolsters other driving dynamics, such as cornering. The suspension includes an available, continuously variable real-time damping system in conjunction with AWD that delivers smooth ride quality by adjusting shock damping rates in response to road conditions. Eighteen-inch wheels are standard, and 20-inch wheels are optional.
The SRX features standard rack-and-pinion hydraulic steering and an available variable effort, speed-sensitive steering system with tuning biased for sport sedan-style driving and strong on-center feel. StabiliTrak electronic stability control is standard.
Photo: 2011 Cadillac SRXPhoto: 2011 Cadillac SRX
Enhanced safety
The SRX is designed to protect occupants before, during and after a crash. A strong body structure and chassis that absorb crash energy are complemented by martensitic steel in the fully enclosed rocker sections. Martensitic steel is one of the strongest available and its use in the rockers helps protect against intrusion during a side-impact crash while also helping maintain the structure during front and rear crashes.
Photo: 2011 Cadillac SRXPhoto: 2011 Cadillac SRX
Additional safety features include standard head curtain side air bags, standard front seat-mounted pelvic/thorax side air bags, front safety belts with dual pretensioners and load limiters, rollover mitigation sensors, trailer stability assist and OnStar.
The SRX was also designed to meet European pedestrian protection standards; and the front bumper is positioned for greater compatibility with car bumpers.

2011 EscaladeCadillac SRX

Performance and safety are enhanced by an available all-wheel-drive (AWD) system designed to optimize vehicle handling and stability in all driving conditions. The pre-emptive, active-on-demand system provides an extra measure of capability in wet or icy conditions.
Photo: 2011 Cadillac SRXPhoto: 2011 EscaladeCadillac SRX
Design details
The SRX’s dynamic exterior features a dramatic diving gesture on the body side to impart the feeling of movement, even at rest. A multi-piece shield grille and Cadillac’s iconic vertical headlamps – with light pipe technology and available adaptive forward lighting – are the face of the SRX. They blend into a tightly wrapped, sweeping body that tapers downward at the rear of the vehicle, creating a sporty profile.
Photo: 2011 Cadillac SRXPhoto: 2011 Cadillac SRX
The SRX has a wide stance, minimal overhangs and wheels pushed to corners. Eighteen-inch wheels are standard and 20-inch wheels are offered. A bold accent line dives across the body side and culminates at a chrome front fender vent that incorporates a side marker lamp. An integrated spoiler on the rearward edge of the roof extends the sleek lines and improves aerodynamics.
An integrated center stack houses controls for climate and audio systems, while the navigation system rises from the center of the instrument panel. A signature example of the SRX’s attention to detail is the Cadillac script logos in the front door sill plates that illuminate when the doors are opened.
Advanced technology and entertainment systems
SRX features numerous advanced electronic systems. Highlights include a “pop-up” navigation screen in the dashboard with three-dimensional imaging, adaptive forward lighting that swivels the headlamps in synch with vehicle steering, power liftgate with programmable height setting, integrated hard disc drive for audio storage and a dual-screen system for rear entertainment.
Photo: 2011 Cadillac SRXPhoto: 2011 Cadillac SRX
Bluetooth compatibility is standard, as is OnStar’s Turn-by-Turn Navigation service for buyers who do not select the navigation system option.
For 2011, the SRX is equipped with ninth-generation OnStar technology. The flexible speech recognition system is now smart enough to interpret different sentences/phrases without actually hearing the exact 2-3 word commands from the user. For example, a subscriber who wants to place a call using the Hands Free Calling System simply says: “I would like to make a phone call” or “Need to make a phone call” instead of saying the exact “dial” or “call” command. The system will understand that the user wants to place a call and process that command. The system is capable of recognizing thousands of sentences that users may say.
Photo: 2011 Cadillac SRXPhoto: 2011 Cadillac SRX
Additionally, significant improvements have been made to OnStar’s flexible speech recognition system to allow it to better understand many regional dialects. This means that a subscriber in southern Louisiana will be just as easily understood as a subscriber in Long Island or Minnesota. OnStar engineers in North America and China performed extensive validation testing across four languages (English, French, Spanish and Mandarin), more than 30 different dialects and vehicle models in a wide range of driving and noise conditions.
Balanced performance and efficiency
The SRX is powered by a standard direct injected 3.0L V-6 that delivers 265 horsepower (198 kW) and has a six-speed automatic transmission. Direct injection results in more power, better fuel economy and lower emissions, all with a smaller-displacement package. The 3.0L engine uses variable valve timing to optimize power and fuel efficiency and reduce emissions. It is paired with a Hydra-Matic 6T70 six-speed automatic transmission with manual shift control.
For 2011, powertrain calibrations have been made on the 3.0L V-6 models to improve acceleration feel. A 2.8L turbocharged V-6 is optional. It delivers an estimated 300 horsepower (224 kW) under full boost, with the fuel economy of a smaller engine during lower-load driving conditions, such as highway cruising. An Aisin AF40 six-speed automatic transmission is matched with the 2.8L turbo and includes a driver-selectable “eco mode” that alters transmission shift points to maximize fuel economy.

The 2011 Escalade Cadillac

The 2011 Escalade Cadillac SRX offers a dynamic alternative in the mid-luxury crossover segment, with a dramatic design, efficient engine choices and a nimble driving experience.

Although the second-generation SRX has only been on the market since 2010 (2009 CY), it has quickly gained a strong consumer following, rising rapidly to become one of the best-selling vehicles in its segment. The SRX receives several revisions for 2011, with a number of new features and modifications that make the vehicle even more refined, responsive and technologically advanced.
Photo: 2011 Cadillac SRXPhoto: 2011 Cadillac SRX
Customers now have increased access to the features they demand most, with expanded availability of the optional rear-vision camera system and keyless access feature. In addition, the cargo fence is standard on all the collections, allowing customers to leverage the SRX’s rear storage system. There are also two new exterior colors to choose from: Mocha Steel Metallic and the premium Black Ice Metallic.
SRX seats five and delivers generous occupant and cargo room; it can tow up to 3,500 pounds (1,587 kg) when properly equipped. A 3.0L direct injected V-6 engine is standard and a 2.8L turbocharged V-6 is optional. Both employ advanced technology that helps produce strong performance that is typical of larger-displacement engines, but with greater fuel economy and lower emissions. SRX FWD models with the 3.0L engine are EPA-rated at 25 mpg on the highway.
